Why build green with Hilti?

Contribute to lower CO2 emissions

Green building practices are a key strategy for meeting the challenge of climate change including reduction of CO2 emissions. Investments in energy-saving and other climate-friendly technologies also help create buildings and communities that are healthier places to live and work while helping reduce the risk of sick building syndrome.

At the same time, green building certification offers transparency on the environmentally-friendly credentials of buildings. Possible benefits include lower building operating costs thanks to alternative energy sources, higher building values and returns on investment, and increased rents.

Our green building solutions can help you obtain up to:

13 x

LEED points
for healthy and environmentally friendly products

7 x

WELL points
and 3 WELL preconditions for material safety and transparency

Obtain documentation for third-party schemes

To make it easier for you to gain points for green building schemes, we offer close to 300 product declarations ranging from environmental product declarations (EPDs) to volatile organic compound (VOC) certificates. These cover all our product groups including firestop and chemical anchors.

You can find these declarations on the relevant product page of our online catalog, or search our website by document type. If the document you need is not yet available, get in touch with us.

Documenting green building supplies

Besides lumber and steel, recognizing if a construction material is ‘green’ is through third-party certifications. Third-party certifications offer transparency.

Hilti conducts testing to measure the environmental impact of our construction supplies on an ongoing basis, which has resulted in a comprehensive database of supporting documentation for our products.

Key green building certificate types

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)

Voluntary, independently verified documentation of a product's life-cycle environmental impact

Download EPDs

Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Emissions Certificates

Statement of any harmful substances released by a product, and an indication if they fall within allowable limits

Download VOC emissions certificates

Cradle to Cradle Material Health Certificates (C2C MHC)

Evidence that a product is manufactured using safer substances and avoids banned chemicals

Download C2C MHCs

Living Building Challenge (LBC)

Hilti can provide a Red List 3.1 Compliance Letter for chemical firestop and adhesive anchoring products that do not contain red-list banned chemicals.

Contact us to request the compliance letter Living Building Challenge website

Life Cycle Analysis (LCA)

Measurement of a product's impact on the environment and human health at all stages from raw material extraction to use and disposal. Often accepted in place of an EPD

Corporate Sustainability Reports (CSR)

Independently-verified statement on the impact of building products on human health and environment

Half of construction industry professionals expect the majority of their projects to be 'green' within three years¹

Certification requirements continue to push green building towards the industry standard, and latest efforts go far beyond energy efficiency. For example, newer LEED® credits incentivize sourcing environmentally responsible products, whereas the WELL Building standard focuses on the overall impact of building design and operation on human health and well-being. From anchors to firestop, Hilti is actively re-engineering and reformulating most building components according to green certification criteria. We have removed hazardous substances, minimized emissions, increased recycled content and sourced raw materials responsibly. This new generation of healthier, greener construction materials is supported by detailed documentation and third-party sustainability credentials.
